FAQs on Skills Programme


1. What is the “Skills Training Programme of the Good Intern Programme”?

It's a programme of 4-7 days for pre interns to acquire essential clinical skills and knowledge.

2. When will it be held?

The previous session was held from the 7th to the 31st of Octorber 2014. Please check back for the dates of the next session.

3. Where will it be held?

In ETU/PCU and Operating Theatre setting in following hospitals

4. Who can register for this?

All preinterns from main and repeat batches are welcome to register.

5. Who is organizing this programme?

GMOA and Ministry of Health in collaboration with the College of Anaesthesiologists and Ceylon College of Physicians.

6. What are the objectives?

Upgrading quality of patient care.

7. Who will conduct this programme?

Consultant Anaesthetists and/or Consultant Physicians of each hospital.

8. What will I gain from participating this programme?

This programme will help you to enhance your clinical skills. Being prepared with clinical skills will increase the quality of service you will be able to provide during your internship.

9. Is the skills training compulsory?

No, It's a voluntary programme. However it is highly recommended as Higher officials of Ministry of Health state that it is essential to learn clinical skills prior to start internship.

10. What skills  can I can get training in during this programme?

The list of skills you can potentially get trained in is included in the online application form and in the log book which you will be provided with. Please note that this will vary depending on local circumstances and clinical needs of the hospital you will be training in.

11. Will I be given a certificate?

Participants who get the log book signed by the consultant will receive a certificate of completing the skills course successfully.

12. Do I have to pay for this programme?

No, it will be free of charge for all participants.

13. Do I get a log book?

Yes, you will get a log book which includes the list of skills that you can get trained.

14. How do we get the log book?

We will email you the soft copy of the log book. You have to get a printout of this. You can also download it here.

15. Is it compulsory to maintain a log book?

No, It is not compulsory. Butwe recommend that you maintain this logbook, get it signed off at the end of the week and email a scanned copy to email address gipgmoa@gmail.com. Those who do so will receive a certificate of completing the skills course successfully.

16. Will I be provided with residential facilities?

Unfortunately we are unable to provide accomodation. You can select the 3 nearest hospitals to your residence or make arrangements of your own regarding accomodation.

17. How to obtain leave from current working place?

You can submit the letter from the Ministry of Health if you want to obtain leave from your working place.
